Rugby: JCT Reach first Semi Final

JCT Reach first Semi Final

History was made on the UL 4G synthetic pitch on Wednesday where Louis Archer calmly slotted the stoppage time penalty to clinch a 17-15 win over two time cup winners Casteltroy College. Bandon started slowly against the breeze and missed a penalty after 20 minutes.

Good combinations by forwards and backs put Kyle Buttimer away for a fine try converted by Archer before half time. A penalty by Castletroy scrum half Jack Oliver before half time left the score at 7-3. Castletroy started the stronger against the breeze in the second half and a break from deep led to an unconverted try. Bandon retook the initiative applying pressure and freshly introduced Chris Walton scored after repeated forward drives, with Archer adding the points to retake a 14-8 lead. Castletroy were not to be denied and relentless pressure resulted in a converted try under the posts to retake the lead 15 -14. Bandon upped their game forcing several penalties in the Castletroy half but couldn’t break down the desperate last line of defence.

Cue the final penalty and wild celebrations. Our semi final opponents will be CBC.
