Young Scientist

This years Young Scientist competition took place this week. We entered 5 projects this year.

From the Junior School we had Georgina Deane, Katie Desmond, Leigh-Anna Wallace & Jenny Buttimer and from the senior side we had Georgina Tarr, Laura Culhane, Zoe Newenham, Acacia Taylor, Karen Sweetnam, Holly Rowe, Cassie Smyth & Katelyn Crowley.

Georgie Tarr & Laura Culhane won the Institute of Physics Special Award for best physics project and also came 2nd in the Intermediate Group Chemical, Physical and Mathematical category. Their project title was 'Using a Hall probe to measure the oscillations of spring systems'.

Well done girls and to everyone who took part. A special thank you must also go to Dr. Gash and Ms. McGrath for organising this years trip.

 

New Staff

We would like to welcome Ms. Aoife Roche and Mr. Finbar Buckley to our staff and wish them a successful time at Bandon Grammar.

 

Debating

The latest round of the Concern Debating Competition took place this week and we took on St. Fachtnas of Skibbereen. We argued for the motion that "GM foods are the solution to world hunger". Well done to Conor Barry, Josh O'Regan, Colin Kingston and Rachel White on another win.

 

Parent Teacher Meeting

The Form II Parent Teacher meeting takes place this Thursday, January 19th at 4:15pm in the Sports Complex.

 

Doodle 4 Google

3 of our students are through to the semi finals of the Doodle 4 Google competition. The competition involves designing a google logo for use on google.com. The students through to the semi final are Mark O'Sullivan (Form VI), Jessica Deane (Form V) and Lauren Jennings (Form II).

Rugby

Our rugby teams were involved in some hard fought games this week, The senior team beat Midleton 13-8 in a friendly match while our Juniors lost 8-3 against the same opposition. On Saturday morning our first years defeated PBC by 27-0 in an excellent performance.

 

Hockey

Our senior boys hockey team took on St. Andrews this week in an extremely entertaining game and will travel to Dublin this coming week to take on Wesley.
