Elections for parent and teacher membership of the Board of Management will take place every three years in the autumn term.

Elections to the Board of Management: Parent Members

Two parents/legal guardians of children currently in the School are to be elected by parents/legal guardians whose children also currently attend the school.

A member so elected shall cease to be a member of the Board of Management if they are no longer qualified for election to membership of the Board of Management [e.g. where s/he ceases to be a parent of a child currently enrolled in the School).

To ensure the widest possible representation, the parents so elected should, where practicable, be from separate families and bear no relationship to any other member of the board.

One should be a mother/ guardian and the other should be a father/ guardian of children currently enrolled in the school.

Parent representatives shall be elected by the general body of parents / guardians of children enrolled in the school.

Parent representatives shall be elected as follows:

  1. The timeframe for the elections shall be laid down by the Chairperson of the Board of Directors in consultation with the Principal.
  2. Parents and registered guardians of all students currently enrolled in the School shall be eligible to nominate, be nominated and to vote in the election of parent representatives.
  3. Parents and registered guardians of all students currently enrolled in the School shall be invited to attend a meeting at which nominations of parents and/or registered guardians for election to the Board of Management shall take place.
  4. The Chairperson of the Board of Directors in consultation with the Principal shall nominate a person to supervise the election process.
  5. All such nominations must be seconded by another parent or registered guardian.
  6. One man and one woman from among the parents and registered guardians shall be elected.
  7. Each parent/guardian shall be entitled to vote for one man and also for one woman.
  8. In the event that more than one man and/ or more than one woman be nominated an election shall take place.
  9. The man receiving the highest number of votes and the woman receiving the highest number of votes shall be deemed to be elected.
  10. Election shall be by simple majority.
  11. The votes shall be counted at the meeting and the result of the ballot shall be notified to the parents at that meeting and to the Chairperson of the Board of Directors as soon as possible after the meeting.
  12. In the event of a tied vote between nominees, the election shall be determined by the drawing of lots.
  13. A list of those elected shall be retained.
