Minutes of BGS Parents Representative Committee

 

A meeting of the Bandon Grammar School Parents Representative Committee took place on Wednesday 19th October 2011 @ 7.30pm in the School library.

The Chairperson Catherine Giblin welcomed the new Committee who then introduced themselves to the group. They were then taken on a tour of the new Classroom Block and Lecture Theatre by the Principal Dave Sutton and Teachers Representatives.

Apologies:

  • Apologies received from Jenny Kingston.
  • Minutes of the last meeting held on 16th May 2011 were read and duly signed. 

 

Matters arising:  

  • The issue of school tracksuits is under review with a boys and girls tracksuit being considered.  It is anticipated that the tracksuits will be introduced for incoming 1st year students at the start of next year.

Correspondence:

  • No correspondence received in the interim.
  • Jenny Miller was elected Secretary.

 

  • As the Parents Representative Committee has no Constitution, a draft copy was given to each member for their perusal.  This issue is to be reviewed at the next meeting.

 

  • Advice is being sought with a view to further improving the nutritional value of school meals.

 

  • The Committee was informed of the procedure regarding suggestions and questions i.e., these are sent to the Principal in advance of meetings so that he may have adequate time for responses.  Usage of the school website is encouraged and a discussion ensued re same.

 

  • The forthcoming Budget with threatened Education cut backs was discussed.  Parents will be informed by letter and asked to lobby their local representatives, Simon Coveney TD in particular.

 

Any Other Business.

  • There will be a fundraising Auction on 5th November next and details of same were discussed.  Everyone to try and encourage attendance.

 

  • The Fundraising Committee are compiling a list of past pupils and also asking what skill set they have to offer.  Proposed night at the Dogs for next term and a Draw for the summer term. €100,000 has been raised to date with a target of €250,000.

 

  • Fundraising ideas were discussed including a calendar for Christmas 2012.

 

  • Suggestions were made to host Coffee mornings for a social aspect and raise general awareness of fundraising efforts.

 

  • Appointment of COMPASS Representative to be included on agenda for next meeting.

 

    • Next meeting arranged for Monday 16th January 2012 at 7.30pm.
