Hurling
Darren Sweetnam (form IV) played a starring role for Cork in the Munster Minor Hurling Championship game against Tipperary on Wednesday 28th April. Darren controlled the midfield area contributing 2 points in a magnificent game which Cork won by 2-31 to 4-22 after extra time.
In doing so Darren becomes the first student from Bandon Grammar to represent Cork in minor hurling. All the more remarkable is that Darren is underage again next year.
Football
Continuing the Gaelic games theme BGS retained the Lord Mayors Cup on Wednesday 28th April. Click here for full report.
Chess
The BGS chess team have remained unbeaten this year so far. They recently won the West Cork Chess Cup and are in the final of the Cork Chess competition and the Cork secondary checkmate competition. Well done to Mr. White and his team
Spanish
Lucy Brem came second in Ireland in her Junior Certificate Spanish. She will be invited along with her family and her teacher to the Spanish Embassy later this year to receive an award.
Table Tennis
Michelle Shorten (form I) has been selected for the under 12 munster table tennis team and will be in action for teh team this weekend.
Texaco Art Competition
Robyn Coombes received a highly commended certificate in the Texaco art competition.
Formula 1
Our team recently competed in the national finals held in Griffith College, Dublin. More details of the event can be found here.
Practical Subjects
Our Art, Construction Studies and LCVP students will be doing their practical exams in the coming week. Best of luck to all involved.
Meeting for New Parents:
6th May. A letter will follow to parents. Due to health and safety reasons the meeting is confined to parents of incoming first years only.
