Mr. Sutton Appointed as Principal
The Board of Bandon Grammar School announced today that it has appointed Mr David Sutton as principal in succession to Mr Ian Coombes, who is moving shortly to take up the position of principal of Kilkenny College.
Mr Sutton is an experienced teacher, keen sportsman and valued staff member at Bandon Grammar School.Originally from Co.Wicklow, David was educated at Masonic School Dublin and Trinity College. He taught at the King’s Hospital, Palmerstown and Wesley College, Dublin before moving to the UK where he taught at Riverstown School, Eltham, London from 1977 – 1983. Mr Sutton then came to teach at Bandon Grammar School and has played a huge role in building an excellent Geography department and coached the Senior Rugby Team for many years garnering a number of trophies. Here his experience from his playing career on the TCD First XV and as an Irish triallist came to the fore.
A dedicated teacher, Mr Sutton was recently seconded to the State Examinations Commission and has played a significant part in developing the School Development Plan.He has also recently completed a course of study in Education Administration and Leadership.
David is married to Joan and they have two sons and one daughter.When interviewed about the new challenge ahead in this position David said, “I am very proud to have been appointed Principal to this excellent school and I am really looking forward to working with all of the partners involved in it”.
