Mungret Cup Final

March 9th 2010

Bandon Grammar 16 SMI (Newcastle West) 10

Bandon Grammar triumphed in this years Mungret Cup final on a breezy day in Fermoy against SMI of Newcastle West, Limerick. In a n extremely tight affair BGS had the upper hand for the majority of the first half. Despite having the lions share of the first half posession however Bandon led only 9-3 at the break with Bandon's points coming from the boot of Darren Sweetnam.

Early in the second half Bandon scored their only try of the game when a beautiful kick in behind the defence from Darren Sweetnam was latched onto by Conor Moloney who had the presence of mind to offload for Sam Hunter to run in the try. Sweetnam converted the try to give Bandon a 16-3 lead.

SMI came back strongly scoring a try of their own after a good drive but despite a few close calls near the end of the half Bandon held on to win the cup.

Outstanding performers on the day were Jack Robinson, Henry Travers, Sam Hunter and Sam McElroy. Congratulations to all the squad as well as Mr. Bradfield and his team of coaches.
