Prize Day 2010

Prize Day 2010 was a much anticipated event. The return of Bandon Grammar's most famous past pupil Graham Norton made sure of this.

The day attracted huge media coverage, including local and national press and TV3.

Mr. Norton arrived at the school in the early afternoon and spent some time around the school meeting students and staff and having lunch before the ceremony.

Prize day was chaired by Mr. Fergus Appelbe and proceedings began with a couple of uplifting songs from our school choir expertly drilled by Mr. Buttimer, Mr. Crosbie and Ms. Butler.

Principal Mr. Sutton then deliver his report on the year, outlining the various achievements including academics, sports, other extra curricular as well as the ongoing development of school facilities.

Next up was the guest speaker, the incomparable Graham Norton. He delivered a speech that was funny, sincere, heartfelt and was well received by everyone in the enormous crowd earning him a standing ovation. Mr. norton was also presented with Cork person of the month and must surely stand a great chance of winning the annual prize.

Afterwards Mr. Norton had tea in the new dining hall and took more photos and signed more autographs for the public.

A fantastic day was had by all on an extremely successful day that will long be remembered. A huge thanks goes to all involved in organising the day and especially to Graham Norton for sharing his time with us on what is a hugely important day in the Bandon Grammar School calendar.
