Half Term
Half term is upon us again, The school remains closed for the week and will reopen Monday morning at 8am for boarders and classes commence at 9am for everyone. We wish everyone an enjoyable week off.
Irish Schools Hockey
Our Senior Boys hockey team took part in the Irish Schools competition this week in Cork.
We lost 2-1 to Friends School, 4-1 to a very strong Andrews College team and drew 3-3 with Regent High School.
The boys played some exceptional hockey in these extremely competitive games and this will prove an excellent experience for what is a very young team.
Many thanks to all the lads as well as their coaches Mr. Platts and Mr. Denis.
Retirement
We bid farewell to Mr. Kevin Buckley this week as he begins his retirement. We would like to thank him for all his fantastic work during the 21 years he spent in Bandon Grammar School. A retirement party was held in the Poachers Inn on Thursday night to mark the occasion. We wish Kevin all the best in his retirement.
Touring Schools
This week saw two English touring schools visit BGS. Tuesday saw the visit of Cheltenham Junior School and Thursday was the turn of Bishop Stratford.
Our First Years took on both schools in Hockey and Rugby. In the rugby we lost 12-7 and 21-7 in two extremely hard fought games which were played at an intesity rarely seen in first year games. Thursdays hockeygame finished 0-0 while our girls put in a brave performance in losing against a very strong Cheltenham team on Tuesday.
Rotary Youth Leadership Competition
Fred McElroy of form V is this years school winner in the Rotary Youth Leadership Competition. Fred now advances to the West Cork finals and we wish him luck.
