Apprentice Chef Finalists

Three Bandon Grammar School students are anxiously preparing their dishes ahead of the final of the Apprentice Chef competition on Thursday the 11th of May in Tralee.

Ella Maguire, Lynn Sweetnam and Katie Bennett are all in Transition Year and will each cook a dish and present a project under the title Good Mood Food.

Students across Munster compete in the event, sponsored by Flogas Ireland and Failte Ireland. The competition, which is in its fifth year, began in October and over 500 students have watched demonstrations and participated in workshops along the way.

The aim of the competition is “to steer students towards eating a healthier and more balanced diet that will improve their mental and physical health and to also promote the catering industry as a career choice.”

The three students will have to prepare restaurant standard dishes to be presented to a panel of judges.

Prizes include a cookery workshop at the student’s school, €1,000 of kitchen utensils and a specially commissioned Ambri chopping board.
